APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL TERMS AND HOLIDAY DATES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/19 PDF 168 KB Minutes: The Executive Board Member considered a report detailing proposed school term and holiday dates for the 2018/19 academic year. It was reported that under the Education (Wales) Act 2014 local authorities and the governing bodies of voluntary aided and foundation schools had to liaise with each other to ensure term dates were the same or, as similar as possible, with the caveat that Welsh Ministers could direct the term dates if they could not be harmonised or, required changing. Having regard to the Act’s requirements, the following proposed school terms and holiday dates had been prepared in discussion and general consultation with neighbouring authorities:-
Easter Sunday – Sunday 21st April 2019; May Day – Monday 6th May 2018
The Executive Board Member was advised that should the proposed dates be approved, they would be subject to the harmonisation arrangements outlined above, and could not therefore be finalised until confirmation had been received from the Welsh Government.
RESOLVED that subject to Welsh Government confirmation, the School Term and Holiday Dates for the 2018/19 Academic Year be approved.
