The Cabinet Members considered the Strategic Equality Plan Annual Report for 2021-22 produced in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 that placed a new general duty on public authorities to cover the following protected characteristics:-
· Gender reassignment
· Race – including ethnic or national origin, colour or nationality
· Religion and Belief – including lack of belief
· Marriage and Civil Partnership
· Pregnancy and maternity
· Sexual Orientation
It was noted that the aim of the duty was to ensure that public authorities and those carrying out a public function considered how they could positively contribute to a fairer society through advancing equality and good relations in their day to day activities.
It was further noted that public bodies were also required to have due regard to:-
RESOLVED that the Strategic Equality Plan Annual report 2021-22 be endorsed for publication and promoted on the Council’s website.
