Committee details
Cabinet
Purpose of committee
The Cabinet (the Executive) is responsible for the overall business of the Council and meets every 2 weeks.
The Cabinet comprises the Leader of the Council, who is the Chairperson, and 9 other members appointed by the Leader. Each of the members of the Cabinet has a defined portfolio of responsibilities.
The decisions of the Cabinet are subject to scrutiny by a different group of councillors, who meet as Scrutiny Committees to check and monitor what the Cabinet does.
The Forward Plan (a programme of work to develop new policies etc.) enhances and develops the 'Budget and Policy Framework'. The Programme is prepared in liaison with all Council Departments and highlights the major policy and budgetary decisions to be taken by the Cabinet and Council in the next 12 months and monthly.
